Bacillus velezensis as a growth promoter for grapes

Abiotic and biotic stresses are becoming increasingly common during the growing season of crops, contributing to a decline in crop quality and yield.
🧫 Grapevines are extremely sensitive to environmental conditions, particularly to fungal diseases, which easily develop on leaves with large surface areas and in grape clusters that retain high moisture levels, which favor pathogen growth.
🦠 Bacillus velezensis is a plant-growth-promoting rhizobacterium (PGPR) capable of stimulating plant growth even under adverse conditions.
📚 A 2022 study analyzed changes in grapevines following the application of B. velezensis strains and demonstrated:
a 20.35% increase in fruit size,
a 31.56% increase in fruit firmness,
an increase in the weight of 1,000 fruits by as much as 28.82%,
a 54.12% increase in the sugar-to-acid ratio,
and an 18.11% increase in vitamin C content.
📈 The use of Bacillus strains resulted in a higher-quality crop compared to the control trial, in which no microorganisms were used.
🌱 The study’s authors emphasize that PGPR bacteria increase soil pH, which promotes carbon sequestration and may thus contribute to improved crop yields.
✅ Microorganisms support the healthy growth of crops while providing a natural and environmentally friendly solution.
